*This year I am participating in a personal project with a group of amazing photographers. We created a blog circle where we challenge ourselves creatively and technically throughout 2018. Life From This Lens is a fascinating look at how a group of photographers around the country interpret the same prompt (or theme) each month. Please follow along in the circle and see everyone’s take on the theme each month. This months theme was Capturing Motion*
If you are a parent of small children, chances are you end up with a TON of blurry photos. They just do.not.stop.moving! Am I right?? The prompt for July was “Capturing Motion” and so of course I, as a mother of two energetic kids under the age of 6, was excited to experiment with this one.
The best thing about this prompt is that there are SO many ways to interpret it. You can freeze motion by using a fast shutter speed. You can capture motion blur by using a slow shutter speed to show movement. You can also use a technique called panning, which means that you move your camera with the moving subject to create a blurry background and in focus subject. Panning, for me, is the hardest of all three. The second photo in this series is my best attempt at panning. I have about 100+ frames that didn’t make the cut. And of course you can do a combination of different techniques.
I have a lot more ideas in my head that I just didn’t have time to execute this month. This theme has inspired me to look for different ways to showcase how busy (and FAST) my little girls are.
Please follow the blog circle to see Alisa’s beautiful photos!
