When Should I Book a Newborn Photographer?

If you are newly pregnant you might be wondering,

β€œWhen should I book a newborn photographer?”

First off, congratulations! This is incredible news and I hope your pregnancy has been smooth so far. This is such a great question to ask. I love that you are thinking ahead and want to plan to have a newborn photography session.

As a general rule of thumb, the earlier you book a newborn photographer, the better.

While technically you can book a newborn photographer whenever you want to, there are some timelines that work better than others. Let me break it down for you.

β€œWhen should I book a newborn photographer?”

  • Booking a newborn photographer during your second trimester is the most ideal time to do it. Why? You probably have a good idea about when the baby’s due date is. You are also (hopefully) feeling better from that first trimester slump and sickness, and you have a lot more energy to focus on things like your newborn photography session. This also gives the photographer (hello, that’s me! I can’t wait to meet you!) plenty of time to block off their schedule for your newborn photography session.

  • However - if you are super excited and want to book during your first trimester, that is fine too. Newborn photographers know that they need to be flexible on newborn session dates due to unforeseen complications, revised due dates and sometimes late arrivals.

  • If time has gotten away from you and your already in your third trimester, definitely reach out to your photographer soon. Their schedule might be booking up and you don’t want to miss the opportunity to work with your first choice photographer.

  • If you have already had that beautiful baby and then all of a sudden realized, β€œCRAP! I want to book a newborn photographer!!” I encourage you to reach out to your photographer ASAP. Some newborn photographers, such as myself, leave a few open spaces each month for last minute clients. Some may not though, so you might not get your first choice photographer if you want too long.

In reality, you can book a newborn photographer at any point during your pregnancy. As a Jacksonville Newborn Photographer, I highly suggest to my clients that they book their newborn session during the second trimester.
