Extended Family Sessions – All the details

Extended Family Photography Session – Jacksonville, FL

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE them?? When my friend contacted me to schedule a big extended family session for her family I, of course, was excited! And then I learned that they wanted to do it at their family cabin on the McKenzie River and I got SUPER excited.

Family sessions are amazing no matter where or when you do them. But if you can have them done at a special place that holds a dear place in your heart, well then they mean that much more. If you haven’t had a big, extended family session done with me before I thought I would explain what they usually look like and how I like to photograph them.

We will always get at least a handful of big group shots. It’s a must and the reason everyone is there. Some will be more traditional and some will be silly. I love them both. Then I like to break everyone into little groups for photos, much like formal wedding photos! Some popular combinations in family sessions like these include grandparents with grandkids, individual families, all the cousins together and of course some of just the adults. There really are endless combinations.

I also like to include some candid photos as well. You know the ones: tickles with the baby, cracking jokes, letting the kids wander and see what they get up to. You know, your family acting how they normally act. A little bit silly, a little bit crazy and lots of fun. And the best news is that they don’t take a huge amount of time. Usually we can get a whole session done in around one hour. Maybe a little bit longer for those little ones that take a while to warm up to the camera. I aspire to make these sessions as fun and painless as possible, for everyone!

MEET tracy

Photographer, mother, creative. Obsessed with travel, time near the water, reading, and the beautifully imperfect nature of family life.

I’m Tracy - family photographer, mom of two, and the one who stays relaxed when things get a little wild. After more than ten years photographing families, I’ve learned that the good stuff happens when you stop trying so hard. With a serious sweet tooth and a strong belief that family photos should actually be fun, I bring a calm, easy energy to every session.
