When I mentioned that Smith Rock was a popular destination for family photos, I wasn’t kidding! I had three back to back family sessions this fall at Smith Rock, and you’ll never have to twist my arm to go out there. This family has a special place in my heart as they are also good friends of ours. I was so excited to capture their family. And I have to give the kiddos major kudos, during their family photos it was SUPER cold and windy. They *did* complain a bit but they were able to hold it together so that we could get some adorable family photos. But we were all super excited to get back to our warm cars when the session was over!

I always highly recommend my clients book their sessions in the warmer months (pretty much June through October) for outdoor family photos, especially if they have little ones. You never know when the cold weather is going to move in and once it does, it’s hard to convince babies and kids to roll with the cold weather. If you have to shoot in the shoulder season (March-May and November) then I highly recommend adding warm layers to their outfits, along with cute cold weather accessories. I’d rather have a kiddo that is bundled up but happy, over a kiddo that is in a cute outfit but freezing their toes off. And I’m sure most parents would agree with me!
