NOTE —

If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

Master Photographer

When I first started this journey as a photographer, I had no idea what I was doing. All I knew is that I liked making photographs and really enjoyed working with kids. One of the first professional networks that I joined was NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers). I was accepted to join about a year or so after my professional photography journey started. And wow – it was one of the best things that happened to my photography business. The members of their community were so supportive and helpful. It was a safe space to ask questions, get advice and commiserate with your peers. They encouraged me to make smart business decisions, charge what I am worth and deal with those rare tough clients. Nearly seven years later and they are still an integral part of my photography journey.

The Process

I was excited when they announced that they were launching a Master Photographer program. This was a chance to get the highest honor and delegation from an association that I admired and trusted. What is a Master Photographer you ask? From their website:

“Becoming a NAPCP Master Photographer in your chosen photography category is a milestone of artistic and business success. This achievement can be used to set you apart from your competition and instill confidence in your clients. The objective is to demonstrate your skill and mastery as an artist who can shoot in a variety of different settings and situations, exhibiting mastery of the specific niche.”

This first step was to gather and edit my portfolio. Then I submitted it to NAPCP for review. After a few weeks I was delighted to find out that I had been accepted as a Master Photographer in the Family Category. Talk about a career highlight! The most important thing to me is that my clients are happy with their images. That comes first. But it sure is nice to get some recognition from some of the best in the industry!

I thought it would be fun to show you the images I included in my portfolio that was submitted for review. Thank you SO MUCH to all of my amazing clients that have trusted me over the years. I couldn’t do it without you!

MEET tracy

Photographer, mother, creative. Obsessed with travel, time near the water, reading, and the beautifully imperfect nature of family life.

I’m Tracy - family photographer, mom of two, and the one who stays relaxed when things get a little wild. After more than ten years photographing families, I’ve learned that the good stuff happens when you stop trying so hard. With a serious sweet tooth and a strong belief that family photos should actually be fun, I bring a calm, easy energy to every session.
